Black Lion

The Black Lion, originally piloted by Zarkon, forms the core of Voltron, acting as its head and torso. It is the largest and most significant of the Lions, symbolizing leadership and unity. The Black Lion was hidden within the Castle of Lions on Arus, where it remained dormant alongside Princess Allura and Coran until the new Paladins awakened it.

The first 'new' Black Paladin was Shiro, who bonded with the Lion due to his courage, calm demeanor, and strong leadership qualities. However, following Emperor Zarkon's initial defeat and Shiro's mysterious disappearance, the Black Lion selects Keith as its next Paladin, recognizing his growth as a leader and his potential to guide the team.
